As I write this, it’s half past four in the afternoon. On our timeline of today, Jesus has just been taken down from the cross, and Joseph of Arimathea (present in all four gospels) has gone to Pilate to ask for the body. What is interesting about this exchange is that Pilate is unaware of Jesus being dead: he has properly washed his hands of the situation, and has taken no further interest until Joseph arrives. And we know this because Pilate asks for the death to be confirmed by summoning the centurion.
