1) Read. Read everything, salvage unwanted books from charity shops and read. You are gaining experience in how to write (or not!) and how to phrase ideas concisely. There will always be something that you can use in lessons: I used the Twilight characters to help explain how hydrogen bonds worked in DNA structure.
